Basketball Recap: Sayre Falls Despite Big Games from Liz Hunter and Abbie Mcgaughey

Sayre lost against Williamson back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Sayre Redskins came up short against the Williamson Warriors, falling 49-28. The Redskins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sayre's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Abbie McGaughey, who posted 16 points and five rebounds, and Liz Hunter, who had seven points along with eight boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Hunter a new career-high in rebounds.

Williamson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Meisner, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Another player making a difference was Avery Vinsek, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Williamson, they moved to 5-12 with that victory, which also ended their eight-game losing streak.

Sayre will square off against Northeast Bradford at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Northeast Bradford will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Sayre surely won't give up without a fight. Williamson has already played their next game (against North Penn-Liberty), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
