Rock Canyon has gone 9-1 against Douglas County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Jaguars are taking a road trip to take on the Huskies at 3:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rock Canyon has four straight wins, Douglas County has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rock Canyon proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 12) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past ThunderRidge 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since September 27, 2024.
Avery Cochran was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Longmire, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Rock Canyon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ThunderRidge struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Douglas County came up short against Mountain Vista on Tuesday, falling 18-2.
Douglas County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicole Morrison, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Morrison is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Rock Canyon's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Douglas County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-15.
Douglas County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rock Canyon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Douglas County, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Rock Canyon's sizable advantage in that area, the Huskies will need to find a way to close that gap.
Rock Canyon took their win against Douglas County when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
