Basketball Recap: Orcutt Academy Piles Up the Points Against Laguna Blanca

Orcutt Academy came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 68-20 victory over the Laguna Blanca Owls. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

Orcutt Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eryka Gudmunds, who went 10 of 21 en route to 21 points along with seven boards and four steals. Those 21 points gave Gudmunds a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Orcutt Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 18 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Orcutt Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.5 points per game. As for Laguna Blanca, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
