Basketball Recap: Heritage Christian Skates Past Gilpin County with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heritage Christian). They breezed by the Gilpin County Eagles to the tune of 86-12 on Thursday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-9.

Heritage Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Hermsen, who went 8 of 11 en route to 16 points along with five assists and four steals. Hermsen's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alec Lundy, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Heritage Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

The victory was the third in a row for Heritage Christian, bringing their record for this year to 7-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Gilpin County, they are on a 32-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Heritage Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-27 win against Clear Creek on the 24th. Gilpin County has also already played their next contest, a 65-27 defeat against Belleview Christian on the 28th.
