Basketball Recap: Santa Fe Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jennifer Stanion and Piper Lenihan

After flying high against Escondido last Monday, Santa Fe Christian came back down to earth. The Santa Fe Christian Eagles took a hard 76-59 fall against the Escondido Charter Tigers on Wednesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (57), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Santa Fe Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Piper Lenihan and Jennifer Stanion. Lenihan dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Stanion dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. Lenihan is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last ten games she's played. Jaedyn Davis was another key player, putting up two points and ten boards.

Escondido Charter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Azalea Vilaysing, who went 8 for 18 on her way to 23 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Vilaysing a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Noelle ChampagNe, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points along with seven assists and five steals.

Santa Fe Christian's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-13. As for Escondido Charter, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Santa Fe Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-48 loss against Morse on the 1st. As for Escondido Charter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-33 win against Pacific Ridge on the 31st.
