Basketball Game Preview: Firebaugh Eagles vs. Mendota Aztecs

Firebaugh hasn't had much luck against Mendota recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Firebaugh Eagles will host the Mendota Aztecs at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mendota will be up against a hot Firebaugh team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Firebaugh claimed a resounding 51-17 victory over Dos Palos. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-5.

Meanwhile, Mendota had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.3 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They breezed by the Buccaneers to the tune of 52-24. Given the Aztecs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 1165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mendota's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.0 points over those games. As for Firebaugh, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7.
