Football Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Roswell's Winning Streak

Roswell dropped down to 5-3 on Friday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a hard 42-28 fall against the Artesia Bulldogs. The Coyotes were down 35-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Roswell's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luis Rodriguez, who rushed for 119 yards and one TD. Noah Estrada also helped with two touchdowns in total.

As for Artesia, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32 points.

Artesia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Derrick Warren, who threw for 316 yards and six TDs, and also rushed for 39 yards. Those six passing touchdowns gave Warren a new career-high. Artesia's leading receiver Trent Egeland was Warren's top target yet again, picking up 154 receiving yards and three scores.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roswell will challenge Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Coyotes will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Artesia, they will take on Goddard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rockets will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
