Basketball Recap: Anika Batra and Shirina Shi Secure Win for American

American won the last time they faced Kennedy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The American Eagles blew past the Kennedy Titans 68-45. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.

Leading American to victory were Shirina Shi and Anika Batra. Shi went 9 of 22 en route to 27 points and four steals, while Batra went 6 for 12 on her way to 16 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. The contest was Shi's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Siya Kulkarni, who posted 11 points.

Kennedy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Catherine Cheng, who earned 11 points and six boards. Cheng has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Payton Siquig was another key player, putting up 14 points and four steals.

The victory made it two in a row for American and bumps their season record up to 14-4. As for Kennedy, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

American will square off against Irvington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. American is facing Irvington at the right time seeing as Irvington is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Kennedy has already played their next matchup (against Mission San Jose), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
