Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pleasanton). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Erie Red Devils 46-12. The Blu-Jays have beaten the Red Devils the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Red Devils has come to flipping the script.
Pleasanton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Antonio Bustillos out in front who rushed for 111 yards and two scores. Bustillos got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 81 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kam Staton, who threw for 119 yards and four touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pleasanton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 210 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 31.8 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five contests they've averaged 173.
Pleasanton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mario Davis and Hayden Mell. Davis also hauled in two receiving touchdowns, which is notable because Pleasanton is undefeated when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise.
The win got Pleasanton back to even at 4-4. As for Erie, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.
As of now, neither Pleasanton nor the Red Devils have any future games scheduled.
