Basketball Recap: Freedom's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Freedom suffered their closest defeat since January 16, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Castilleja Gators by a score of 46-43. The Falcons' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Freedom still got an impressive performance from Eve Monzon, who went 9 of 20 en route to 20 points and four steals. That was a full 46.5% of Freedom's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Sepulveda, who put up seven points.

Antonia Vlahos continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Castilleja, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 22 rebounds. That's the most points Vlahos has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Layla Gallon, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Freedom's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Castilleja, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Freedom didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-33 win against Cosumnes Oaks on the 30th. As for Castilleja, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-32 victory against American Canyon on the 30th.
