Softball Recap: Rifle Wins Going Away Against Poudre

Rifle had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Poudre on Saturday. The Bears were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Impalas. The Bears have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Impalas, too.

Gia Keithley spent all three innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on zero hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rylan Petree, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and seven RBI. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Zimmer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBI.

Rifle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Rifle has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Poudre, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Coming up, Rifle will square off against Eagle Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Poudre, they will take on Rocky Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Impalas' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lobos have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
