Basketball Recap: Urbana Takes Down Governor Thomas Johnson in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Urbana rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed past the Governor Thomas Johnson Patriots to the tune of 72-42. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

Leading Urbana to victory were Zizi Etolue and Dyanara Valenzuela-Ruz. Etolue dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards, while Valenzuela-Ruz posted 12 points in addition to seven assists and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Valenzuela-Ruz a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Tobi Adebambo, who went 6-for-11 on her way to 13 points.

Urbana is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Governor Thomas Johnson moved to 6-15 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Urbana will head out to take on Clarksburg at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Clarksburg will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Urbana surely won't give up without a fight. Governor Thomas Johnson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
