Baseball Game Preview: Dublin Fighting Irish vs. Washington County Golden Hawks

The Dublin Fighting Irish will square off against the Washington County Golden Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Dublin will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Southwest on Friday. Dublin put the hurt on Southwest with a sharp 13-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Fighting Irish in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Landyn Horne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Dublin got a massive performance out of Morgan Davis, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Davis also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Dublin is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-4 otherwise. Will Wallace was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Washington County had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 12-6 margin over the Bulldogs.

Washington County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Dublin, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
