Basketball Game Preview: Del Norte Nighthawks vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

The Del Norte Nighthawks will face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Friday, Del Norte opened the new year with a less-than-successful 42-35 defeat to Mission Vista.

Despite the loss, Del Norte had strong showings from Emerson Cole, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points, and Molly Freer, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 10 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Freer a new career-high in points.

Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 59-44 victory over the Eagles.

La Costa Canyon's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.1 points per game. As for Del Norte, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.

Del Norte strolled past La Costa Canyon in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 by a score of 65-49. Will Del Norte repeat their success, or does La Costa Canyon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
