Baseball Game Preview: Mountain Ridge Sentinels vs. Lone Peak Knights

The Mountain Ridge Sentinels will take on the Lone Peak Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mountain Ridge 3.4, Lone Peak 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Mountain Ridge heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Monday. They fell just short of Skyridge by a score of 11-9. The Sentinels' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Karson Fankhauser was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and four runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Meanwhile, Lone Peak faced Corner Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Knights fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.

Boston Walkenhorst made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Dallin Scharmann was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Mountain Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 21-7. As for Lone Peak, their loss dropped their record down to 20-8.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mountain Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Lone Peak struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Mountain Ridge's way against Lone Peak when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Mountain Ridge made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sentinels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
