Basketball Game Preview: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Kamehameha Maui Warriors

Having just played yesterday, the El Capitan Gauchos will jump right back in to play the Kamehameha Maui Warriors at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. El Capitan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.9 points per game this season.

El Capitan will head into Friday's matchup on the come-up: they were handed a 28-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past West Anchorage 55-53.

El Capitan's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Alexis Valenzuela, who posted 20 points and four steals, and Madysen Dietz, who put up 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards Dietz has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Jordynn Middleton, who had four points and 12 rebounds.

El Capitan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Kamehameha Maui beat Baldwin 37-28 on Tuesday.

Kamehameha Maui is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.6 points per game. As for El Capitan, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
