Basketball Recap: Mt. Whitney Comes Up Short

Mt. Whitney lost against El Diamante back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Mt. Whitney Pioneers were outmatched by the El Diamante Miners and fell 65-17. The contest marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Helen Cisneros and Valerie Rich, who each put up five points. Mia Candido took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead El Diamante to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rian Jones-Dillihunt, who posted 18 points and seven rebounds. Jones-Dillihunt is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Angelina Morales, who earned seven points along with ten steals and five assists.

Mt. Whitney has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for El Diamante, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Mt. Whitney didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-23 loss against Monache on the 31st. As for El Diamante, they have also already played their next game, a 59-36 victory against Porterville on the 31st.
