Basketball Recap: Canton's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

If Canton was feeling good fresh off their 59-31 takedown of Sayre last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Canton Warriors took a 47-33 bruising from the Athens Wildcats on Tuesday. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Canton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cailyn Vannoy, who posted 12 points and three steals. Vannoy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last nine games she's played. Kendall Kitchen was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Canton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Canton's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6. As for Athens, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Canton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 51-24 loss against Towanda on the 23rd. Athens has also already played their next contest (against Charles O. Dickerson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
