Basketball Recap: Santa Monica Takes a Loss

Santa Monica saw some tournament action on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 71-15 loss at the hands of the La Salle Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 545th, while the Lancers are ranked 32nd).

Casey Higgins continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for La Salle, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. Higgins is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Cortes, who posted 13 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Santa Monica and nudges their season record down to 3-6. As for La Salle, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Santa Monica didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-49 victory against Burbank on the 13th. As for La Salle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 60-40 win against Palisades on the 14th.
