Softball Game Preview: Lamar Thunder vs. Southeast Colorado Angels

Lamar is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Southeast Colorado is on a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Thunder will welcome the Angels at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Saturday, Lamar sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over Alamosa.

Carlin Weber made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexa Aguilar, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yahirett Roman, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Lamar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Southeast Colorado's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Saturday. They didn't even let Burlington on the board, marking the Angels' second-straight 12-0 shutout. The Angels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by ten runs or more this season.

Southeast Colorado's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Lamar, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
