Softball Recap: Guardian Angels Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Guardian Angels Central Catholic dropped down to 13-8 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the O'Neill Eagles by a score of 5-4. The Bluejays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Abby Kreikemeier and Amiah Dirkschneider stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kreikemeier went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Dirkschneider went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for O'Neill, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On O'Neill's side, Rylee Selby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Selby.

At the plate, Jozy York was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Grace Drueke also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 9-3 defeat against Yutan-Mead on the 25th. As for O'Neill, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Highway 91 on the 25th.
