Softball Recap: Bellevue East Chieftains vs. Westview Wolverines
If Bellevue East was riding high fresh off their 15-1 takedown of Columbus on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chieftains fell just short of the Westview Wolverines by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Chieftains were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
Alisha Mcmurtry was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ariana Wells was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Bellevue East's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7. As for Westview, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Bellevue East will challenge Papillion-LaVista on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chieftains 3.1, the Monarchs 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Westview, they will take on Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
