Basketball Recap: Christopher Extends Winning Streak to Four

Christopher had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They secured a 59-55 W over the Leland Chargers. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Chargers are ranked 809th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Leland lost, don't look at Diya Boyapati. Despite the final result, she went 10 for 19 en route to 24 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Boyapati has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Saanvi Gunukula was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven steals.

Christopher has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Leland, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Christopher will head out to face off against Branham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leland, they are taking a road trip to square off against Evergreen Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evergreen Valley will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Leland surely won't give up without a fight.
