Football Recap: Western Harnett Comes Up Short

Western Harnett extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They had to suffer through a 35-0 loss at the hands of the South Johnston Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 355th, while the Trojans are ranked 167th).

Aiden Shupe threw for 66 yards on 12 of 21 attempts. Creig Matthews was his top target, picking up 43 receiving yards.

As for South Johnston, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.3 points over those games.

Holt Langston had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 230 yards and four scores while picking up 12.1 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in October of 2024.

Looking ahead, Western Harnett will face off against West Johnston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Johnston, they will challenge Triton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans will be up against the Hawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
