Basketball Game Preview: Tomball Cougars vs. Klein Bearkats

Tomball and Klein are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Tomball Cougars will be playing at home against the Klein Bearkats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tomball will be strutting in after a win while Klein will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Tomball beat Magnolia West 49-45. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Mustangs are ranked 836th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tomball had a senior duo take command as Kylee Symons posted 11 points and six rebounds and Danielle Oyakhire almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. That's the most points Oyakhire has posted since back in January of 2024.

Tomball smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Klein entered their game against Klein Collins on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Klein took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Klein Collins.

Tomball is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Klein, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-7.
