Baseball Game Preview: Bishop McDevitt Crusaders vs. Red Land Patriots

The Bishop McDevitt Crusaders will take on the Red Land Patriots at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop McDevitt 3.1, Red Land 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, Bishop McDevitt needed a bit of extra time to put away Gettysburg. They had just enough and edged out the Warriors 5-4. The win was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on three straight.

Jett Daugherty and Josh Bernard did most of the damage at the plate: Daugherty went 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Bernard went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Bernard a new career-high. Chase Clinkscale also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Bishop McDevitt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Red Land was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of Hershey by a score of 3-2.

Liam Brenner put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Red Land has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Bishop McDevitt, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Bishop McDevitt came out on top in a nail-biter against Red Land in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
