Basketball Recap: Santa Fe Christian Skates Past Escondido with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Santa Fe Christian over Escondido in every quarter on their way to victory on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Santa Fe Christian Eagles blew the Escondido Cougars out of the water with a 57-16 final score. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Santa Fe Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jennifer Stanion led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 20 rebounds. What's more, Stanion also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Piper Lenihan was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine assists.

Santa Fe Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Escondido only posted four assists.

Escondido's loss came despite strong showings from Naomi Gutierrez and Anaya McGlory. Gutierrez posted six points in addition to nine steals and seven boards, while McGlory put up four points. Gutierrez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Santa Fe Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Escondido, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-10.

Santa Fe Christian has already played their next match (against Fallbrook), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Escondido didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-29 win against San Pasqual on the 21st.
