Baseball Recap: Granby Comes Up Short

Granby couldn't beat Pathfinder RVT on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fourth inning. The Rams fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 7-6. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pioneers earlier this season, when they won 17-4.

Joe Barrett put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Granby is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-12 otherwise. Barrett was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

In other batting news, Brodie Funk made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Anthony Santiago was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Granby and nudges their season record down to 5-13. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Pathfinder RVT, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-13.

Looking ahead, Granby will host Mahar Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pathfinder RVT, they are taking a road trip to square off against Smith Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.36 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
