Softball Recap: Yutan-Mead Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Yutan-Mead can now relate to. They fell just short of the Central City Bison by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Patriots have lost by exactly two runs.

Jersey Siske spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jordyn Campbell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Leah Thompson, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

This is the second loss in a row for Yutan-Mead and nudges their season record down to 25-8. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only two runs. As for Central City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-8 record this season.

Yutan-Mead does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Central City, they will take on Bishop Neumann at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Bison's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
