Sophia Shults and Kaitlyn Bindas secure win for Hazleton Area

Recap: Hazleton Area Cougars vs. Wyoming Valley West Spartans

The Hazleton Area Cougars entered their tilt with the Wyoming Valley West Spartans with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. Everything went Hazleton Area's way against Wyoming Valley West on Monday as Hazleton Area made off with a 83-59 win. Hazleton Area has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Hazleton Area was led to victory by Sophia Shults and Kaitlyn Bindas. Shults dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Bindas scored 25 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bindas has scored all season. Sophia Benyo was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.

Hazleton Area's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Wyoming Valley West, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazleton Area will challenge Dallas at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Dallas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Hazleton Area is ranked 20th). Wyoming Valley West's road trip will continue as they head out to face Pittston at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th.
