Basketball Recap: Avenal Comes Up Short

Avenal lost against Dos Palos on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The match between the Avenal Buccaneers and the Dos Palos Broncos didn't end well, with the Avenal Buccaneers falling 35-20.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dos Palos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Athena Correa, who posted 21 points. The dominant performance gave Correa a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Bland, who earned ten points.

Avenal has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Dos Palos, their record now sits at an identical 7-11.

Avenal and Dos Palos could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Avenal will challenge Coalinga at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday down 840 places (1146 vs. 306). Meanwhile, Dos Palos (ranked 1011th) will meet Mendota (ranked 316th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
