Baseball Recap: Clarke Central's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Clarke Central entered their tilt with Monroe Area on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Purple Hurricanes. The Gladiators have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Purple Hurricanes, too.

Oliver Siegmund was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Clarke Central is 4-1 when Siegmund allowsone or fewer hits, but 8-10 otherwise. Siegmund was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Eberhard, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Clarke Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sam Williams, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Clarke Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe Area, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clarke Central will take on Winder-Barrow at 5:55 p.m. on Monday. As for Monroe Area, they will face off against East Hall at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monroe Area is facing East Hall at the right time seeing as East Hall is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
