Baseball Recap: Academy of Richmond County's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Academy of Richmond County can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 16-13 victory over the Howard Huskies. The Musketeers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sam Barfield made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Henry Oliver was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ben Wright, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Academy of Richmond County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Academy of Richmond County's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Howard, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy of Richmond County will venture away from home to square off against Howard at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Howard, they will head out to face off against Rutland at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Howard has given up an average of 15.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
