Baseball Recap: Purdue Broad Ripple Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Purdue Broad Ripple nor Eminence made it on the board until the ninth inning. The Lynx sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Eels. The Lynx haven't had any issues with the Eels recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Kyler Jones and Oliver Callahan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jones struck out 13 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Callahan tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Jones has posted since back in April. At the plate, Jones got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Callahan went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Jones has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, Hayden Holder was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Ryan Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Purdue Broad Ripple's record is now 11-5. As for Eminence, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Purdue Broad Ripple will face off against Indiana School for the Deaf at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Eminence, they will square off against Greenwood Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
