Basketball Recap: Notre Dame Falls Despite Big Games from Mika Cary and Sammy Kakala

Notre Dame and Lowell squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Notre Dame had to settle for second. They fell 47-37 to the Lowell Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Cardinals are ranked 107th).

Sammy Kakala and Mika Cary certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Kakala dropped a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards, while Cary posted 11 points. Kakala is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Notre Dame and nudges their season record down to 15-10. As for Lowell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Notre Dame does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lowell, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-54 victory against Liberty Ranch on the 6th.
