Basketball Game Preview: Fillmore Flashes vs. Simi Valley Pioneers + Official Tickets

The Fillmore Flashes will face off against the Simi Valley Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fillmore will be strutting in after a victory while Simi Valley will be coming in after a defeat.

On Thursday, Fillmore got the win against The Palmdale Aerospace Academy by a conclusive 43-20. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flashes.

Fillmore can attribute much of their success to Hermelinda Ocegueda, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Yaneli Landin, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Ocegueda has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Lucy Murillo was another key player, putting up five points and 14 boards.

Fillmore smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since the start of last season.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Simi Valley and Newbury Park, and Newbury Park kept the tradition alive. The Pioneers had to suffer through a 59-19 loss at the hands of the Panthers. The loss continues a trend for the Pioneers in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.

Fillmore has also opened the season with a perfect 2-0 record. As for Simi Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Fillmore might still be hurting after the 55-31 loss they got from Simi Valley when the teams last played back in January. Can the Flashes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
