Basketball Game Preview: Yuba City Honkers vs. Nevada Union Miners

The Yuba City Honkers are taking a road trip to square off against the Nevada Union Miners at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Yuba City is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Yuba City came up short against Placer and fell 35-25. While losing is never fun, the Honkers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1022nd, while the Hillmen are ranked 249th).

Meanwhile, Nevada Union also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Roseville by a score of 41-28.

Yuba City will have to contain Elle Conway as she made an impact in Nevada Union's last game. She posted seven points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks. That's the most blocks Conway has posted since back in December of 2024.

Even though they lost, Nevada Union smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roseville only pulled down nine offensive boards.

Nevada Union's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Yuba City, their record is now 5-19.

Yuba City was able to grind out a solid victory over Nevada Union in their previous matchup back in January, winning 41-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Yuba City since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
