Preview: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. Mission San Jose Warriors
Newark Memorial is 1-9 against the Warriors since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Newark Memorial Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Mission San Jose Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Newark Memorial is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Newark Memorial won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 69-25 loss at the hands of James Logan. Newark Memorial has struggled against the Colts recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Sydney Scott, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelina Baca, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Mission San Jose's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Irvington. While losing is never fun, Mission San Jose can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 673rd, while the Vikings are ranked 233rd).
Newark Memorial has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. As for Mission San Jose, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.
Newark Memorial was dealt a bruising 61-31 loss at the hands of the Warriors when the teams last played back in January. Can Newark Memorial avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
