The Unity Christian Lions will head out to square off against the New Creation Christian Academy Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Unity Christian has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Unity Christian lost 17-7 to Cornerstone Christian on Saturday.
William Wilson and Hayden Darnell stepped up to the plate in a big way. Wilson got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Darnell scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Aaron Kennett also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, New Creation Christian Academy waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 4-1. While the Crusaders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Micah Stewart made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Nolan Hyde was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Chase Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
New Creation Christian Academy's record now sits at 5-2. As for Unity Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Unity Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like New Creation Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Unity Christian couldn't quite get it done against New Creation Christian Academy in their previous matchup on Monday as they fell 7-3. Can Unity Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
