James River dropped down to 12-10 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Patrick County Cougars by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since May 29, 2025.

As for Patrick County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

For Patrick County's part, they let Calvin Lancaster and Zach Holt run wild. Lancaster went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Holt went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Holt a new career-high.
