Baseball Recap: Alexander Comes Up Short

If Alexander was feeling good fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Lithia Springs last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Alexander Cougars fell just short of the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Matthew Westbrook was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jon Bemus was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Joshua Price also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Alexander's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Kennesaw Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

While Alexander had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
