Football Recap: Bishop O'connell Falls Short of St. Mary's Ryken in the Playoffs

Bishop O'Connell and St. Mary's Ryken squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Bishop O'Connell had to settle for second. They took a blow against St. Mary's Ryken, falling 56-12. While losing is never fun, Bishop O'Connell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 234th in Virginia, while St. Mary's Ryken is ranked 12th in Maryland).

Zander Schied threw for 56 yards and one touchdown. Xavier Reid was his top target, picking up 56 receiving yards.

Bishop O'Connell dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for St. Mary's Ryken, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Bishop O'Connell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Mary's Ryken, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 43-6 win against Paul VI on the 22nd.
