Basketball Game Preview: Fillmore Flashes vs. Channel Islands Raiders

Fillmore hasn't had much luck against Channel Islands recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Fillmore Flashes will square off against the Channel Islands Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Fillmore is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 61 points on Thursday, they were much more limited against St. Bonaventure on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Seraphs and fell 81-25. While losing is never fun, the Flashes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1039th, while the Seraphs are ranked 240th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Yaneli Landin, who posted seven points. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Hermelinda Ocegueda was another key player, putting up four points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Channel Islands was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against Santa Paula, falling 68-12. The contest marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Fillmore's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Channel Islands, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Fillmore was able to grind out a solid win over Channel Islands in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 29-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fillmore since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
