Basketball Recap: Evergreen Valley Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Evergreen Valley can now relate to. They lost 65-42 to the Salinas Cowboys on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Cowboys are ranked 226th).

Leading Salinas to victory were Calleigh Panziera and Soraya Hernandez-Alonzo. Panziera posted 15 points, while Hernandez-Alonzo had 15 points. Those 15 points gave Panziera a new career-high. Isabella Stepp was another key player, putting up eight points.

The loss snapped Evergreen Valley's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-13 record. As for Salinas, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

Evergreen Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Salinas, they will square off against Los Altos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
