Soccer Game Preview: Westridge vs. Mayfield

Westridge hasn't had much luck against Mayfield recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Westridge Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Mayfield Cubs at 3:30 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Westridge is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game back in December of 2024. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Flintridge Sacred Heart an easy 7-1 victory. Things were pretty much settled by the half as the Tigers were already down 4-0.

Meanwhile, Mayfield's game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Chadwick by a score of 1-0. While losing is never fun, the Cubs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 420th, while the Dolphins are ranked 182nd).

This is the second loss in a row for Mayfield and nudges their season record down to 4-6-1. As for Westridge, they now have a losing record at 2-3-3.

Westridge came up short against Mayfield in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 3-1. Can Westridge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
