Softball Game Preview: Seneca Indians vs. Monett Cubs

Seneca is 2-8 against Monett since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Indians will be playing at home against the Cubs at 4:30 p.m. Seneca is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Seneca is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Nevada an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Indians considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Kordy Hancock was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Berrey, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Monett fell victim to McDonald County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to the Mustangs. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 5, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Kilee Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Seneca picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 5-8. As for Monett, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seneca has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monett struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
