Recap: Exeter Monarchs vs. Hanford West Huskies
After losing to the Hanford West Huskies the last time they met, the Exeter Monarchs decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Exeter narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Hanford West 37-34.
Exeter's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karlene Veleta, who scored 13 points. Veleta continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Venegas, who scored three points along with five assists and four steals.
Despite the loss, Hanford West still got an impressive performance from Aaliyah Hollis, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Hollis scored 15 or more points.
Exeter's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Hanford West, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
Exeter will head out on the road to face off against Selma at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Selma is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Hanford West, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Kingsburg at 6:30 p.m. Kingsburg comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
