Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for South Tahoe

South Tahoe won against Truckee last Tuesday with 42 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The South Tahoe Vikings took down the Hug Hawks 42-23. The win was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on five straight.

Among those leading the charge was Avery Long, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Campbell Mathews, who posted eight points and five boards.

South Tahoe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 20 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Hug still got an impressive performance from Cori Carrier, who had 11 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

South Tahoe is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Hug, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-9.

South Tahoe has already played their next contest (against North Valleys), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hug will challenge Sparks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hug is facing Sparks at the right time seeing as Sparks is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
