Basketball Game Preview: Point Loma Pointers vs. Canyon Hills Rattlers

The Point Loma Pointers will head out on the road to take on the Canyon Hills Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Point Loma has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Canyon Hills will arrive with three straight wins.

Last Friday, Point Loma came up short against Madison and fell 44-31.

Despite the defeat, Point Loma saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hannah Smith dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in steals (four).

Meanwhile, Canyon Hills earned a 23-16 victory over Mission Bay on Friday.

Canyon Hills is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Point Loma, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.

Everything came up roses for Point Loma against Canyon Hills in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, as the team secured a 58-26 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Point Loma since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
