Preview: Delano Tigers vs. Chavez Titans
Delano is 0-10 against Chavez since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Delano Tigers on the road again and play against the Chavez Titans at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th.
On Wednesday, things could have been worse for Delano, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 43-29 loss to Kennedy. Delano has not had much luck with Kennedy recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Meanwhile, Chavez scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat McFarland 70-38 on the road. With Chavez ahead 40-8 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Chavez relied on the efforts of Hannah Diaz, who scored 16 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds, and Chloe Lopez, who scored 14 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Diaz posted eight or more assists. Madyson Herrera was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Delano has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Chavez, they pushed their record up to 9-9 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Delano was dealt a bruising 63-21 defeat at the hands of Chavez in their previous matchup on January 8th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Diaz, who scored 16 points along with four steals. Now that Delano knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
